Teaser Tuesday (May 4)

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:

  • Grab your current read
  • Open to a random page
  • Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
  • Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

I’m still working my way through The Angel’s Cut, as I haven’t had much time for reading recently, but since I’ve already given you a teaser from there I’ll use the book that’s next on my list: Neil Gaiman’s American Gods.

“So that’s what we’ve done, gotten by, out on the edges of things, where no one was watching us too closely.

We have, let us face it and admit it, little influence. We prey on them, and we take from them, and we get by; we strip and we whore and we drink too much; we pump gas and we steal and we cheat and we exist in the cracks at the edges of society. Old gods, here in this new land without gods.”

Wednesday paused. He looked from one to another of his listeners, grave and statesmanlike. They stared back at him impassively, their faces mask-like and unreadable. Wednesday cleared his throat, and he spat, hard into the fire. It flared and flamed, illuminating the inside of the hall.

What are you reading today?

  1. That’s very intriguing! The only Neil Gaiman I’ve read was Coraline, several years back, which I enjoyed a lot. Might have to give this one a closer look now.

No time like the present: the #1b1t “book club” is reading American Gods over the next eight weeks. Join in if you like! 🙂

  2. Terrific teaser! I’ve only read Coraline too so I’m going to have to check this out!
